The International Conference on Computational Models of Argument (COMMA) is a regular forum for presentation and exchange of the latest research results concerning theory and applications of computational argumentation. This successful series has comprised editions held in Liverpool (2006), Toulouse (2008), Desenzano del Garda (2010), Vienna (2012), Pitlochry (2014), Potsdam (2016), Warsaw (2018), Perugia (2020), Cardiff (2022), Hagen (2024). For 2026, the biennial COMMA event will be hosted at the CSIC Delegación de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain. COMMA 2026 will be preceded by the seventh edition of the Summer School on Argumentation (SSA 2026). In addition to the main conference track, COMMA 2026 will include system demonstrations, as well as workshops devoted to specific argumentation-related themes.
COMMA topics include, but are not limited to:
- Formal, semi-formal and informal models for argumentation
- Argumentation and non-monotonic Reasoning
- Dialogue based on argumentation
- Strategies in argumentation
- Argumentation and game theory
- Argumentation and probability
- Argumentation and narrative
- Argumentation-based explanation
- Argumentation and computational linguistics
- Argument mining- Argumentation and large language models
- Neuro-symbolic computing with argumentation
- Computational properties of argumentation
- Reasoning about action and time with argumentation
- Decision making based on argumentation
- Argumentation in agent and multi-agent systems
- Argumentation for coordination and coalition formation
- Argumentation-based negotiation
- Argumentation, trust and reputation
- Argumentation and human-computer interaction
- Systems for learning through argument
- Implementation of argumentation systems
- Tools for supporting argumentation
- Domain-specific systems using argumentation
- Innovative applications and tools
We invite submission of original and unpublished work. Parallel submission to journals or other conferences or workshops with published proceedings is not permitted. The conference includes a Regular Track and an Innovative Applications Track. As to the latter, we encourage the submission of original papers about innovative applications, e.g., in law, medicine, e-democracy, risk assessment, intelligent user interfaces, recommender systems, argument mining, scientific discovery etc. Innovative applications papers will be assessed in an equally rigorous reviewing procedure as regular track papers. The reviewing process is single blind. The length of each submission for both Regular and Innovative Applications papers must not exceed 12 pages.
Paper submission, in PDF format, will be managed through EasyChair (site going live in February 2026), with a submission deadline of 18 April 2026 (all dates are 23:59 UTC-12, ‘anywhere on Earth’).
The conference will feature keynote talks from:
- Guillem Alenyà, Director of the Institut de Robotica i Informatica Industrial at CSIC-UPC Spain
- Ulrike Hahn, Director of the Centre for Cognition, Computation and Modelling at Birkbeck, University of London, UK.
The proceedings of the conference will be published by IOS Press as an open-access book. Authors should prepare their submission following the instructions given by IOS Press (http://www.iospress.nl/service/authors/latex-and-word-tools-for-book-authors/).
Policy on use of Generative AI:
If authors make use of generative AI tools in preparing any part of their research reported in their paper or during the paper writing process, they assume full responsibility for all content, which includes checking for plagiarism and correctness of the entire submission. Any such use of generative AI in the production of a paper should be judicious and declared within the submission. Generative AI tools cannot be attributed as authors of papers.

CALL FOR DEMONSTRATIONS
A session will be organized at the conference for the demonstration of innovative working applications and tools. Authors of accepted submissions will be invited to present their demonstrations during the demonstration session.
Systems of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Innovative applications in law, medicine, e-democracy, risk assessment, intelligent user interfaces, recommender systems
- Innovative applications for good
- Collaborative and social systems based on argumentation
- Simulations of dialogue-based argumentation
- Argumentation-based reasoners
- Argumentation-based agents and multi-agent systems
- Argumentation-based systems for explainable decision making
- Decision support systems based on argumentation
- Argument mining systems
- Systems for generating arguments from knowledge bases
- Systems for editing, presenting, and judging arguments and counterarguments
Anyone intending to demonstrate a system should inform the demonstrations coordinator, Vicent Costa (vicent at iiia.csic.es<mailto:vicent at iiia.csic.es> — subject of the message: COMMA-2026-Demonstration), by email no later than two weeks before the general CFP deadline (i.e. by 4 April 2026), indicating also whether or not the demonstration is linked to a paper in the main conference track.
If the demonstration is not associated with a paper in the conference, a two-page extended abstract describing the system must be submitted by the general paper submission deadline of 18 April. The submission site, format, and deadlines for extended abstracts are the same as those for regular papers. Accepted extended abstracts will be published in the conference proceedings.
For demonstrations connected to a paper in the conference, no separate abstract needs to be submitted.

CALL FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS
Workshops provide an informal setting to discuss work in progress in an atmosphere that fosters the interactive exchange of ideas. COMMA 2026 welcomes workshop proposals that address topics satisfying the following criteria:
- The topic falls within the general scope of the COMMA 2026 main conference. See the list of topics above.
- The topic is focused on a specific problem, technology or application.
- There is a sufficiently large community interested in the topic.
- If there are multiple workshop proposals on the same or similar topics, you may be asked to merge your proposals.
Workshop Proposal Guidelines:
Workshop proposals should be sent by email to the COMMA 2026 Workshop Chair Antonio Rago (antonio.rago at kcl.ac.uk<mailto:antonio.rago at kcl.ac.uk>). The workshop proposal should be a short PDF document (max 5 pages) with the following information:
- Title, Organisers (at least 2, from different institutions), Abstract
- Motivation for the workshop (relation to main conference, timeliness)
- Workshop format (paper presentations, panel discussions, invited talks, general discussions, etc.)
- Expected duration (half-day or full-day)
- Intended audience and expected number of participants
- List of (potential) members of the program committee (at least 25% confirmed)
- Submission, notification and final paper deadline dates, aligned with the ‘Important Dates’ section below
- If applicable, past versions of the workshop, including URLs and statistics on submissions/papers/attendance
If accepted, the workshop organisers are responsible for:
- Publishing a workshop webpage, with links to the COMMA 2026 website
- Publicising the workshop to attract submissions and attendees
- Organising the reviewing of submitted papers
- Determining the program for the workshop, within the time limits provided by the conference organisation (as stated above)
- Publishing accepted papers in electronic proceedings, preferably before the workshop date, preferably with CEUR-WS
- Scheduling, attending and coordinating the workshop
