We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to join the Centre for Autonomous and Intelligent Systems (CAIS) within the School of Computing & Engineering, a large, research-intensive School, at the University of Huddersfield.

The Research Fellow position is to work within the scope of the funded EPSRC-BBSRC project “Textile waste refinery for the production of recycled plastic, cellulose and dye”, on the design of AI-based approaches for the recognition of textile waste, by scanning the surfaces of textiles. The expectation is that you’ll have experience in ML, and the interest in applying such techniques in the textile environment. This is a field where significant impact can be made, and where there is scope for a variety of approaches and research lines to be explored. The work will entail the design and developments of machine learning techniques, and the experimental evaluation on real-world data provided by project partners.

The CAIS centre, lead by Prof Mauro Vallati, is currently working on a variety of topics involving the design and use of AI techniques, for instance in urban traffic control, healthcare, logistics, and supply chain optimisation.
