You may have heard that after serving a rotation at NSF and many years as a
professor, I have joined a startup, AIM Intelligent Machines. The company
has an exciting vision for autonomous terraforming for construction,
mitigating natural disasters, mining, and other global challenges:
https://aim.vision .

I am leading the part of the team that is focused on high-level job
planning. For example, given a blueprint of a project, the planner will
determine where various excavators and other heavy equipment should be
positioned over time, where they should dig material to and from, and how
the machines should move and interact.

I am looking for software engineers to join this effort. The main
qualification is excellent facility with software design, particularly in
Python, and the ability to learn quickly; pluses are experience with any or
all of the following:

   -

state-space search, AI planning, and constraint satisfaction algorithms
   -

   linear and mixed-integer programming
   -

geospatial problems using GeoPandas, Shapely, or similar libraries
   -

   web-based user interface development
   -

   reinforcement learning

Candidates may be at any level, bachelors through PhD.

AIM is located in the Seattle region, about a half hour north of Redmond,
WA. A candidate should either be able to relocate or visit the company
homebase every month or so.

This position (Generalist Software Engineer) and others are listed on the
AIM website at https://www.aim.engineer/. I would be most pleased if
faculty members reading this message pass it on to their recent graduates.
This is a great opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a company
where one can help change the world while playing with really big machines!

Henry Kautz

Director, AI Planning, AIM Intelligent Machines
