One four-year PhD grant on Multi-perspective Process Mining is offered by the faculty of Computer Science of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano in Italy jointly with the Process & Data Intelligence research unit at Fondazione Bruno Kessler, Trento, Italy, where most of the research activities will be conducted. The grant amounts to 68,000 € (i.e., 17,000 euro per year, net after taxes); for research visits abroad the grant can increase up to 50%. Substantial extra funding is available for participation to international conferences, schools, workshops, research visits. The language of the PhD programme is English.

The deadline for applications will be on the 13 of July 2020.

For more info, the call, and applications look at: https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/4AAqC81V97HQLAPvhnMsG1?domain=unibz.it
and in particular to the grants funded by external parties in the application documents

The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano and Fondazione Bruno Kessler are located 50 KM apart in one of the most fascinating European regions, the Dolomites.
Fondazione Bruno Kessler is an internationally well-known research center, whose information technology department ranks first among the Engineering and Information Science research centers in Italy.
The Process & Data Intelligence research unit (https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/g1BiC91W27Hx96N3cEmHq_?domain=pdi.fbk.eu) is a young and internationally well known research group focused on the interplay between formal (and especially logic-based) representations of knowledge and data driven representations of knowledge, with particular emphasis on Process-aware systems and semantic web based systems. The PhD will be conducted under the joint supervision of Dr. Chiara Di Francescomarino. and Dr. Chiara Ghidini.

Within the Process Mining field, the Process & Data Intelligence research unit is looking for PhD students interested in:

- Machine Learning;
- Data Analytics;
- Predictive Process Monitoring;
- Business process discovery and monitoring.

A description of a sample topic is provided below. To get in contact with the Process & Data Intelligence research unit and discuss about the opportunities of this call contact Dr. Chiara Di Francescomarino at dfmchiara at fbk.eu

Sample TOPIC of the PhD : Multi-perspective Process Mining
Process mining is a family of methods that aim at analyzing business processes based on their observed behavior recorded in event logs. Sometimes, however, together with data related to the observed behaviour, additional knowledge about the process execution is also available (e.g., knowledge provided by domain experts, knowledge related to rules that have to be observed). This knowledge can be leveraged in order to improve the accuracy of the results of state-of-the-art process mining techniques, e.g., to discover more accurate process models or to provide more accurate prediction.
Within this PhD program, the candidate will work towards combining the information gathered from recorded event logs and additional knowledge in the context of different process mining scenarios, such as process discovery and predictive process monitoring. Achieving this task requires dealing with several challenges as, for example, the capability to envision new algorithms able to combine data and knowledge and the capability to implement scalable solutions.
The work will put together theoretical and methodological aspects, ranging from the capability to identify the correct representation for a complex problem up to the development of process mining algorithms and tools.
