The 2012 Pacific Rim Knowledge Acquisition Workshop (PKAW 2012)
Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia
September 3 - 7, 2012

The 2012 Pacific Rim Knowledge Acquisition Workshop (PKAW 2012) is
part of the 12th Pacific Rim International Conference on Artificial
Intelligence. The purpose of this workshop is to provide a forum for
presentation and discussion of all aspects of knowledge acquisition
from both the theoretician's and practitioner's points of view. While
it is well accepted that knowledge is vital for our individual,
organisational and societal survival and growth, the nature of
knowledge and how it can be captured, represented, reused, maintained
and shared are not fully-understood. This workshop will explore
approaches that address these issues. PKAW includes knowledge
acquisition research involving manual and automated methods and
combinations of both.

We invite authors to submit papers on any aspect of knowledge
engineering, management and acquisition research and practice.
Research which addresses advanced application issues such as
scalability, security, and robustness are particularly welcome. All
papers will be peer reviewed, and those accepted for the conference
will be included in the Springer LNAI proceedings.

Topics of Interest
Papers are invited for consideration in all aspects of knowledge
acquisition, engineering and management for intelligent systems,
including (but not restricted to):
- Fundamental views on knowledge that affect the knowledge
acquisition process and the use of knowledge in knowledge engineering
- Algorithmic approaches to knowledge acquisition
- Tools and techniques for knowledge acquisition, knowledge
maintenance and knowledge validation.
 - Evaluation of knowledge acquisition techniques, tools and methods
   Knowledge acquisition and machine learning
 - Languages and frameworks for knowledge and knowledge modelling
information systems or decision support systems
 - Methods and techniques for sharing and reusing knowledge
 - Distributed knowledge acquisition through infrastructures such as
the internet and social networks
 - Ontology acquisition and the role of ontologies in knowledge acquisition
 - Knowledge authoring and semantic annotation
 - Knowledge acquisition from non-ontological sources
 - Mining the Semantic Web and the Web of Data
 - The role of agents in knowledge acquisition
 - Data mining and machine learning
 - Business Rules, Knowledge Acquisition and Software Engineering
 - Knowledge Acquisition for idea generation, creativity and innovation
 - Algorithmic approaches to machine intelligence
 - Tools and techniques for machine intelligence

Instructions for Paper Submission
Papers must follow the Springer Lecture Notes format. The paper should
be between 10 to 15 pages long. For format templates, please see the
Springer Website (http://www.springer.com/lncs). Submission will be
via Easychair (https://www.easychair.org/account/signin.cgi?conf=pkaw2012).
The site will be open soon.

   Camera Ready: 28th May, 2012

Review
Each submission will be reviewed by at least two members from the
program committee. Acceptance is based on the basis of relevance,
originality, significance, soundness and clarity.
