Position Overview
Applications are invited for two Ongoing Position Path (OPP) program
positions (equivalent of a US tenure-track position) in the Research
School of Computer Science, at academic levels B or C.
The objective of this hiring round is to attract early-career faculty
who have the potential to help define the future of the computing
discipline. The successful applicants will be able to present a
groundbreaking vision for their research, together with a convincing
record of top-level academic accomplishment relative to opportunity.
Applications are particularly invited from researchers whose interests
are synergistic with existing research groups within the Research School
and whose breadth of vision reaches across traditional discipline silos.
The appointees will have a reduced teaching load relative to a
traditional, teaching-research academic.
Women are particularly encouraged to apply. As part of a plan to improve
gender balance within the Research School of Computer Science, one of
the two positions is reserved for women. Applicants are requested to
state clearly whether they wish to be considered for this position.
The current research groups within the Research School of Computer
Science are Algorithms and Data, Artificial Intelligence, Computer
Systems, Information and Human Centred Computing, Logic and Computation,
and Software Intensive Systems Engineering.
The ANU is an outstanding environment for an academic career and it has
achieved the highest research rankings of any Australian university
across a range of its disciplines including Information and Computing
Sciences. It is located on a beautiful campus which is close to natural
wilderness and outdoors activities. There are strong research
relationships between the Research School of Computer Science and the
Canberra laboratory of National ICT Australia (NICTA) as well as with
the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).
The OPP will mirror a tenure-track position, initially with a fixed-term
of 5 years with the possibility of converting to an ongoing appointment
following excellent performance.
Appointment at the higher level will require substantial relevant
experience and skills.
