Awards

The Pavlos Peppas Distinguished Service Award serves to recognise exceptional and sustained service to the Knowledge Representation and Reasoning community, whether it be service to the KR conference series, the KR Inc organisation, other KR-related events, or more generally, any (non-research) activities that have helped foster a vibrant research community and/or increase the visibility of the KR field.

The Pavlos Peppas KR Distinguished Service Award, established by KR Inc. and presented at the 23rd International Conference on Principles of Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KR 2026), has been awarded to Gerhard Brewka in recognition of his exceptional and sustained service to the KR community.

With many prestigious awards, honours, and significant roles, Gerd has helped underlining the importance and highlighting the visibility of KR in the larger landscape of AI. Gerd has been an active member of the KR Steering Committee since 2008. He served as the President (2012–2014) and has been a Director since 2019. He is always prepared to step in when needed.

The aim of the Test of Time Award is to recognise papers published at the KR conference whose contributions have made a significant and lasting impact on the KR academic discipline and/or the application or adoption of KR techniques in industry and/or for the betterment of society. Eligible papers are those that have been published at the KR conference at least 15 years ago. While papers do not need to be nominated to receive the award, the awards committee welcomes suggestions from KR researchers of papers that they believe merit consideration for the Test of Time award.

The Test of Time Award, established by KR Inc. and presented at the 23rd International Conference on Principles of Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KR 2026), has been awarded to Adapting Golog for Composition of Semantic Web Services published in KR 2002 by Sheila McIlraith and Tran Cao Son.

The aim of the Early Career Award is to recognise early career researchers who have already made significant research contributions to the theory and/or practice of knowledge representation and reasoning and who demonstrate great promise for future impactful contributions. To be eligible for the 2026 Early Career Award, researchers should have completed their PhD degree in 2024 or 2025. It is not a requirement that the early-career researcher has published at the KR conference, but the relevance of their research to KR in a broad sense (including implementation and applications of KR techniques) should be evident.

The Early Career Award, established by KR Inc. and presented at the 23rd International Conference on Principles of Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KR 2026), has been awarded to Stylianos Vasileiou for his contribution to Explainable Decision-Making.

An Honourable Mention for the Early Career Award, established by KR Inc. and presented at the 23rd International Conference on Principles of Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KR 2026), has been awarded to Sanja Lukumbuzya for her contribution to Reasoning in Very Expressive Description Logics.

An Honourable Mention for the Early Career Award, established by KR Inc. and presented at the 23rd International Conference on Principles of Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KR 2026), has been awarded to Jonas Haldimann for his contribution to Inductive Inference Operators.
